Help us beat neuroblastoma, the number one baby and toddler cancer

Neuroblastoma is a complex and aggressive cancer affecting young children. The average age of diagnosis is just two years old and it is the leading cause of cancer death of children under five.

Only 50% of those children diagnosed with aggressive neuroblastoma will survive five years after diagnosis – and a third of those children that do survive, will have long term side effects from their treatments.

Neuroblastoma has a devastating impact on families across Australia, you can read some of their stories here.

Why we need your help

In Australia, on average, one child is diagnosed with neuroblastoma every nine days.

The disease attracts very little research funding from pharmaceutical companies and from the Government. In fact all childhood cancers put together only received 10% of the total government cancer research budget.

Current treatments are calibrated for adults and are extremely toxic for children's bodies. Children that survive the disease can be left with lifelong health challenges due to treatment toxicity, these can include: infertility, hearing and vision problems, and the increased risk of secondary cancers.

Children need therapies that are less toxic, reduce trauma, and are specifically designed for them.

Where your money goes

Your contribution will help us fund desperately needed childhood cancer research projects.

Every two years Neuroblastoma Australia holds a research grants round where scientists from all over Australia propose new research projects. Funding these projects provides essential support so good ideas can evolve and progress through the various research stages needed.

Each project is reviewed by our Scientific Advisory Board; an International panel of leading neuroblastoma experts who assess each project application to ensure only the best research is funded. Lucy Jones, CEO, Neuroblastoma Australia.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters,  Neuroblastoma Australia has funded over 14 different research projects and supported established scientists with innovative ideas that have the potential to make a real difference to children's lives.

Every research project we support takes us a step closer to achieving our goal of finding better treatments, and ultimately a cure.

Without these new developments children will continue to endure extensive and toxic treatments, and often not survive.

About us

Led by CEO Lucy Jones, Neuroblastoma Australia is a childhood cancer charity that raises funds to invest in innovative research projects with the goal of developing more effective treatments as well as treatments which are safer.

We are the ONLY charity in Australia solely dedicated to funding research for neuroblastoma. Our commitment to changing the lives of children with neuroblastoma is demonstrated by:

  • Our expertise in neuroblastoma
  • Establishing a panel of leading international experts who assess and select research projects
  • Providing vital seed funding to innovative new ideas based on reducing toxicity and improving efficacy

Ultimately our vision is to find a treatment which will lead to all children surviving and without causing any permanent damage.

Please help

Your charitable donation can drive life-saving research into safer, more effective treatments for neuroblastoma—helping to improve survival rates and quality of life for children. Plus, all donations over $2 are eligible for a charitable giving tax deduction

  • Donations over $2 are tax-deductible in Australia.
  • Support neuroblastoma research to improve treatments for young children.
  • Make a real impact while receiving a charitable giving tax deduction.

Every childhood cancer research donation, no matter how big or small, helps us with our fundraising for the young children diagnosed with neuroblastoma and who deserve the chance of life.
